On 14 September 2025, the first Momson Award was presented. The day carried a steady rise of anticipation that grew into joy and recognition. Families gathered, young people stepped forward, and the atmosphere became filled with something greater than ceremony. What unfolded was not only an award presentation but the living embodiment of why the award exists.
The Momson Award was created in memory of a mother whose life was defined by belief, resilience, and care. Her role as a paediatric nurse reflected her nature — dedicated to nurturing children and young people, offering guidance, and ensuring others were supported. Beyond her profession, she lived with integrity, generosity, and a spirit of service that extended to family, neighbours, colleagues, and strangers alike. She cultivated growth, encouraged exploration, and treated education as a foundation.
Her approach was practical and consistent. She placed books in her children’s hands, encouraged independent learning, and created spaces for curiosity to flourish. She instilled discipline and direction not as demands but as gifts — building resilience, confidence, and purpose in small, daily acts. Her life was defined by warmth, generosity, and a belief that life is incomplete without care and regard for others. It was a life reflective of fulfilment itself: the fulfilment of hopes, ambitions, and the growth of others. The Momson Award carries this principle forward as both remembrance and promise — honouring her life by ensuring those values live on in the next generation.
The first presentation reflected this vision. The recipients stood not only as individuals but as members of families and communities whose pride was visible. Attending with loved ones, they shared the joy of recognition together. These were moments of belonging — showing the dignity of being valued, the strength of being supported, and the warmth of community carried with them.
The day itself signified unity, resilience, and the importance of recognition. It showed that when young people are seen, supported, and celebrated, they gain strength to persevere and belief in their own potential.
Looking ahead, the award will grow. It will sponsor more youth, expand into larger community-led events, and create pathways that extend beyond sport into education, creativity, and development. The vision is to build a tradition rooted in belief, carried by community, and extended into generations yet to come.
The Momson Award is not a prize. It is a pathway — a living reminder that resilience, when honoured, becomes possibility for the next generation.
